We have an exciting year planned, and are continuing to build and grow our curriculum based on the needs of our students. Signs of Suicide is a curriculum that is taught to all 7th graders across Wake County. It is designed to help students recognize signs of possible depression and suicidal thoughts and behaviors, as well as to give them the tools and resources to seek help when needed. Counselors will be going into core classes for one day between October 3rd and November 3rd to teach this important lesson. Students will take a short survey that will be collected by the counselors and based on student responses, counselors and/or other Student Services staff will follow up with students as needed. Parents will be notified in the event a serious matter is disclosed.
A detailed letter will be sent home prior to the lesson. In the event that a parent does not wish for his/her child to participate in the lesson, the letter should be returned to the counselor immediately. Children who will not participate will receive an alternate assignment. For questions or more information, please see your child's counselor. Wake Early College of Health and Sciences will be visiting RMS to talk with 8th graders about their program. A representative from their school will be on campus Oct. 4 at 8:30 to meet with interested track 2 and 3 students. Another meeting will be held on October 24 at 8:30 for track 1 and 4 students. Welcome Back RMS Parents and Students! It's time for another school year to begin. Parents, make sure you complete all the first day information from your child's teachers. We would like to welcome two new staffers to the Student Service's Department: Lora Markoch, guidance tech, and Tony Davis, school social worker.
